- Junior Scabbard and Blade (JROTC) -

A pilot program to provide a military honor society for Junior ROTC detachments through the U.S. was begun in 2003. Membership is by invitation and is limited to the top 25 percent of cadets and midshipmen as identified by the JROTC cadre at each school.

A primary thrust of Junior Scabbard and Blade is to encourage high standards of performance in school -- in academics, athletics, and socially. While Junior Scabbard and Blade membership is independent of Senior Scabbard and Blade membership, junior members are encouraged to attain a college education, and Junior Scabbard and Blade company activities should include a college orientation program.

Junior Scabbard and Blade is also fraternal, in that members seek to develop a lifelong commitment to the principals of the Five Stars and continued fellowship with other members after graduation and throughout life (see “Alumni Outreach”).
