Scabbard and Blade was voted membership February 19 into the Association of College Honor Societies. National officers petitioned ACHS in August, and other member societies present at the annual convention in Boston, MA, voted unanimously for approval of the petition. Scabbard and Blade is the first military honor society to join the organization which boasts a list of over 60 other honor groups. Although it is the newest member society of the group, Scabbard and Blade is among the oldest of such societies. Founded in 1925, ACHS is a predominantly American organization that serves a number of functions with respect to national collegiate and post-graduate honor societies. In particular, it is a certifying body for such organizations, facilitates communications among them, and provides programming that supports the mission of member organizations and effective organizational management. A number of benefits are now available to Scabbard and Blade members through affiliation with ACHS to include preference when applying for internship programs in Washington, DC, and promotion in GS rating when entering Federal civil service. Member societies of the Association of College Honor Societies are as divergent as knowledge itself. As the ACHS Web site notes, “From business to physics, mathematics to music, these organizations exist for one primary purpose: to encourage and honor superior scholarship and leadership achievement.” More information about ACHS and its programs may be obtained online at http://www.achsnatl.org/index.asp.
