5. Individual Nomination Process:
It is not necessary to establish a Scabbard and Blade
Company (chapter if you like) on your campus in order to
become a member. A member of the R.O.T.C. or J.R.O.T.C.
cadre at your school may nominate you by verifying that
you meet the above requirements necessary for membership. Maintaining a
company will provide leadership experience and life-long
friends, but will also require a good deal of effort. To
join as an individual, simply ask the ranking cadre member
of your R.O.T.C. or J.R.O.T.C. unit to
email the national executive director stating you meet
the membership requirements and are being nominated for
membership. The email should also provide the shipping
address and phone number for the R.O.T.C. department. You
should then
register for membership
in the National of Headquarters company on this Web site. Your new
member packet will be shipped to the nominating cadre member
for presentation to you at an appropriate ceremony.
6. Overview of Company Nomination Process:
Sponsoring companies should extend offers for membership
to all cadets and midshipmen on campus who meet the above
standards, regardless of membership in other organizations.
Formal invitations are available for this purpose. A
company, before submitting such invitations, will submit each
qualified nominee to a vote of the membership by secret
ballot, as provided by the National Constitution. Nominees
not receiving at least a seven eights vote of confidence
will not be extended an invitation to membership, but may
appeal the vote (see Article I, Section 114, of the National
Constitution). Company officers must insure that otherwise
qualified candidates are not denied an invitation to
membership simply due to personality differences, or unfair
objections, of individuals within the company.
Upon organization of the pledge class, download the
Society Pledge Manual from this site, and see that
each candidate thoroughly understands the history, purpose
and activities of Scabbard and Blade. A
Pledge Test may be downloaded form this site and
administered to the candidates to insure they understand the
basic principals of the Society. Sponsoring companies may
add additional requirements to the pledge process, however
any form of hazing is strictly forbidden.
An appointed company officer in charge of the pledge
process should see that each successful candidate is
registered
on this site as a new member. Each candidate will pay a
one-time initiation fee during the registration process, and
should also enter information.
The appointed pledge program officer further should
complete the online
Report of Intent to Initiate
form, or, email the national office (ddollar@scabbardandblade.org
) a notification with the following information: the name of
each candidate registered on this site for membership, a
statement verifying that all candidates so nominated have
successfully completed the company’s pledge process and meet
all requirements for membership in the Society, the name of
the responsible pledge officer along with a contact phone
number and email address.
All applications will be reviewed by the
National Executive Director, and complete
membership packets will be shipped to the Company pledge
officer at the address of the appropriate ROTC office.
Uniform items may be ordered on this Web site.
*The Five Stars are principles established by the
cadets who founded Scabbard and Blade at the University of
Wisconsin, Madison, during the 1904-05 academic term. They
are revealed to new members during initiation ritual.
Starting a New Company:
If you are interested in starting a new company of
Scabbard and Blade at your college or university, visit the
new company page for further information. After reading
this information, you may contact the
National Executive Director at phone 405-377-4279
for clarification of points you do not fully understand.

the credit."
