Ed Glover served as
the National Executive Officer and then the National Commander of
Scabbard and Blade for nearly 15 years. In these capacities, he presided
over the greatest growth in the Society in history. In 1964, he
relocated the National Office to
Stillwater,
OK.
Ed joined Scabbard and Blade at
Oklahoma A&M College
in 1941. His Army ROTC class of 1943 was mobilized into active duty and
sent to the Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA, during WWII. Ed
was a replacement 2nd Lieutenant to the 9th U.S. Infantry Division in
1944 and arrived just in time to participate in the St. Lo breakout from
the Normandy beachhead. After several months of combat as an infantry
platoon leader, Ed was wounded and became a prisoner of the German Army
until the end of the war. He returned to work at his alma mater for the
next 40 years, after receiving a business degree from it in 1947. Ed
passed away in 2008. For his dedicated service to the Society, he was
inducted into the Scabbard and Blade Hall of Fame.
